TORFL (Test of Russian as a Foreign Language)
Testing for proficiency in Russian as a foreign language is based on a unified certification system to determine the level of practical proficiency in the Russian language. It takes into account the purposes of language use, skills, and abilities in using language means for implementing specific tactics of speech behavior in the main types of speech activity.
In-person format, held in Ankara at the Ankara University of Social Sciences.
Testing participants at 6 general levels
of Russian language proficiency:
Elementary Level (TEU)
Confirms basic knowledge for further study of the Russian language for general cultural and educational purposes.
Basic Level (TBU)
Confirms that the candidate can meet basic communicative needs in everyday and general cultural communication.
I Certification Level (TORFL-1)
Confirms a moderate level of communicative competence. TORFL-1 certificate is required for admission to Russian universities.
II Certification Level (TORFL-2)
Confirms a sufficiently high level of communicative competence in all areas of communication and allows for professional activities in Russian as a specialist in humanitarian (except philological), engineering-technical, natural-scientific, and medical-biological profiles.
III Certification Level (TORFL-3)
Confirms a high level of communicative competence in all areas of communication, allowing for professional activities in Russian as a philologist, translator, editor, journalist, diplomat, manager, working in a Russian-speaking environment.
IV Certification Level (TORFL-4)
Confirms a level close to that of a native speaker. Necessary for obtaining a specialist and master's degree in Russian philology, a candidate of philological sciences, as well as a candidate of pedagogical sciences (in the specialty "Methodology of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language"). Grants the right to all types of teaching and research activities in the field of the Russian language.
